Project Background
The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (MNP) in cooperation with the World Conservation and Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and UNEP GRID Arendal develops the GLOBIO model. The model will be used for evaluation of future consequences of human impacts and environmental change for biodiversity, its goods and services, as well as human well-being.
The GLOBIO model can be roughly divided into three parts:
- GLOBIO3 pressure based model, which describes environmental change effects on biodiversity using general dose-response relationships;
- Species based GLOBIO, which uses species information in general relationships and will be developed at regional levels;
- Relationships between biodiversity, goods, services and human well-being.
Current objectives are focused on the second part of the model: species based GLOBIO using species information at regional levels. A significant portion of this effort is focused on development of a specific IT-product for the GLOBIO, through which full potential of IT and capabilities can be shown to Russian speaking countries of the Pan-EU Region, and relevant businesses.
