First Agro-bioindicators Round-table at ULRMC in Kyiv, Ukraine, July, 2003
Within the framework of the UNEP-GEF "Bioindicators for National Use" (BINU) project ULRMC hosted the first round table on "Indication of the State and Diversity of soil, Agro Ecosystems, and possible applications of remote sensing and geographical information systems".
Representatives of ULRMC, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Center for Aerospace Research of the Earth, Institute of Agro Ecology and Biotechnology UAAS, the Institute of Agrochemicals and Agrology, the State Center for Soil Fertility Protection (SCSFP), and regional branches of the SCSFP participated in the round table.
The purpose of the round table was to research potential possibilities of collaboration and define partners for the BINU project, inform representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine about the projects implementation, about possible of remote sensing and GIS technologies, for studying the state of soil and agro ecosystems.
The State Center for Soil Fertility Protection founded in 2000 by Cabinet of Ministers order on a base of Agrochemical service for compiling national and regional data bases, and agrochemical monitoring for dividing land into raions , delivered presentation on it's capabilities during the round table.
Additionally, the SCSFP representatives - Mr.D.Bentzarovsky and Ms.T.Lev - gave a presentation on "Geoinformation technologies for soil fertility assessment and production quality, and also presented it's project research, methods of it's research. The regional branches of State Center for Soil Fertility Protection also presented their reports".
Lastly, the participants outlined their general interests in collaborating to use remote sensing for the realization these projects to improve state biodiversity in Ukraine.
