Study of Kyiv Environmental State
The Project was aimed at updating the information on the morphometry of the inland water bodies and the Dnipro islands within Kyiv, and identifying a present state of the land areas adjacent to the water bodies within Kyiv with the help of remote sensing and GIS techniques.
Under this Project, ULRMC completed the following tasks:
- Updated the morphometry of the northern Dnipro islands within Kyiv, inland lakes and water bodies of Kyiv left bank;
- Identified the state of the land areas adjacent to the water bodies, the improvement of which is envisioned in the General Kyiv City Plan for the period until 2004;
- reviewed the possibilities of digital processing and cartographic modelling of natural environment of city agglomerations using remote sensing data.
During the Project implementation, Landsat, SPOT, Corona, IRS, Terra imagery from ULRMC archive, other existing archival materials and in-situ data were used. Under the Project, methodological approaches to processing and application of remote sensing data for studying geological systems were studied.
To identify water protection zones, the requirements of the Water Code and other regulating documents on water protection zones were analyzed.
The obtained results can be used by the State Department of the Environment and Natural Resources of Kyiv.
