March 18, 2004 - ULRMC celebrated five years of operations in the Ukrainian market of GIS and remote sensing. Around 70 guests from different organizations, donor agencies and government entities of Ukraine attended the celebration. The ULRMC staff was congratulated personally by Mr. Yuriy Petrochenko, Chairman of the ULRMC General Meeting; Mr. Volodymyr Horbulin, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on National Security Issues and Director of the Institute of National Security Problems; Mr. Craig Marks, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Altarum Institute; and Mr. Christopher Crowley, Director, Regional Mission for Ukraine, Belarus & Moldova, USAID; as well as by other friends and partners.
The International Association "Ukrainian Land and Resource Management Center (ULRMC)" was established five years ago as part of U.S. technical assistance to Ukraine. ULRMC was founded in 1999 by the Environmental and Resources Research Institute of Ukraine (presently the Institute of National Security Issues) and the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (presently Altarum Institute).
With financial and technical support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), respectively, ULRMC quickly became recognized as a Ukrainian "Center of Excellence" in Information Technologies, staffed by qualified Ukrainian professionals and equipped with advanced hardware and software. ULRMC has an extensive satellite imagery archive of various resolutions, including imagery acquired through ULRMC's own satellite reception station and has undertaken about 50 projects in support of decision making processes in Ukraine and throughout the region.
ULRMC highlighted for the guests the organization's various activities and projects at its 5th anniversary celebration.
