June 18 and June 25, 2003 - ULRMC hosted seminars on "2002-2003 Academic Year Altarum/Nansen University Fellowship Program (UFP)" which featured presentations by UFP Student Fellows. The students, who have worked on their Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. degrees, presented project results that were achieved with support of ULRMC specialists in areas of remote sensing applications, GIS and other information technologies.
The UFP in Ukraine was initiated in 1999 with funds donated by individual ERIM (now Altarum Institute) employees. The next two years of UFP were financially supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Altarum Institute. In the 2002-2003 academic year UFP expanded with new funding from the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation for the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (CRDF) in addition to USAID and Altarum financial support, providing grant opportunities for 10 students to work on their Ph.D., Master's and Bachelor's dissertations. The program is being administrated jointly by ULRMC and the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv (NUK).
David Lindeman, Program Director, CRDF, Natalia Artiukhovska, Director, CRDF Representative Office in Ukraine, Altarum and ULRMC representatives participated in the seminar on June 18, 2003 and were very pleased with achieved results by Yana Sapyton and Marina Mykhailovska from National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", Bohdan Miroshnichenko from National Aviation University, and Oleksiy Kalynychenko from the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. O. Konovalenko, N. Krizska, O. Aksem and Y. Parkhisenko from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, V. Nochvai from National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" and M. Kolomytsev from National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" presented their works for ULRMC and Altarum representatives on June 25, 2003.
