ULRMC Initiates the Project "Research of Environmental Status of Kyiv"

Jan. 10, 2003. Experts are sought for a project that aims to conduct the research on the current state of land resources adjacent to water areas within the limits of Kyiv; to identify the areas that pose exogenous threats in Kyiv; and to identify areas and water sites that may be impacted by possible accidents at unsafe sites and facilities within the area of Kyiv.

Picture explanation: Aster satellite image of Kyiv region, taken August 4, 2001. Pink areas are soil and urban, dark green areas are coniferous forest, lighter green areas are other types of the vegetation. This image was acquired and processed by the ULRMC during its 2002 initiative on developing ecological support for land and environmental management of the Kyiv region.

The project will provide for the use of the Earth remote sensing (RS) data, in particular the multi-spectral and panchromatic imagery acquired by Landsat and Spot satellites.

Until February 1, 2003, ULRMC will accept expressions of interest from Ukrainians who are qualified to serve, during the project implementation, as external experts in processing, classification, and interpretation of RS data for the research of the environmental status of water-related and exogenous processes. For specific information (in Ukrainian) on the external expert sought for this project, please click here.
