Environmental Ministry and ULRMC Wrap Up Scientific and Technical Partnership Agreement
December 12. 2002. The Ministry of Environment and Nature Resources of Ukraine and ULRMC signed an Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation, demonstrating their will to expand and foster their partnership in the application of information technologies to the protection and sustainable use of natural resources.
ULRMC General Director, Oleksandr O. Mazurkevich, and Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Vasyl Y. Shevchuk, signed the Agreement, which provides that the Ministry and ULRMC will conduct:
- Exchange of satellite, on-site monitoring and statistical data on the environmental status of territories (such as weather conditions, hydrologic observations, water and soil pollution levels, landslides, mudflows, and natural protection areas and sites);
- Joint design and implementation of projects on developing environmental databases, improving the environmental monitoring network for territories, as well as the use of data processing models;
- Joint training courses tailored for management, technical staff and scientific staff for receiving, processing and forming database tools and for using relevant computer models.
The address, made by the Minister of Environment and Nature Resources of Ukraine, proposing ULRMC to take part in the preparation of the 5th Pan-European Conference of Ministers "Environment for Europe" may be viewed as one of the high priority steps in implementing the guidelines of the Agreement.
