ULRMC Hosts Seminar on Remote Sensing of Fire's Role in Carbon Exchange

ULRMC hosted the seminar "Remote Sensing of Fire's Role in Carbon Exchange (Using the Example of Northern Forests in North America)" that discussed direct and indirect effects of fire on land/atmosphere carbon exchange.

The seminar was lectured by Dr. Nancy French, Research Scientist, Altarum Institute, the American co-founder of ULRMC. Dr. French presented background information on boreal forest ecology and global changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and temperature, discussed direct and indirect effects of fire on land/atmosphere carbon exchange, presented the key issues related to estimating carbon exchange from fire-disturbed sites, and showed examples of how remote sensing and GIS can help in quantifying fire's impact. The seminar was well received by the audience that included representatives of Ukrainian government agencies, environmental organizations and IT companies.

The slides of the presentation by Dr. French may be found here.
